England V New Zealand 3rd ODI 1997 | Classic Cricket Highlights

This Match Was Played in Early 1997 Between England And New Zealand. England Were Visitors In That Tour While New Zealand Was The Host. England Had Already Won the Previous Two Games And Were Looking To Clinch The Series In The Third One While It Was A Do Or Die Game For New Zealand Which If They Lost Would Cost Them The Series. Captain Germon Was Optimistic That New Zealand Would Not Disappoint This Time.

Young and Astle Were The Openers For New Zealand. Both Of Them Got New Zealand To A Good Start By Playing Grounded Shots And Relied On Their Timing. The Run Rate Was Good As Well And Soon New Zealand Reach Their Half Century. New Zealand Were Eying A Pretty Big Score But Then Astle Hit One Straight In The Air And Gave Stewart An Easy Catch. Captain Germon Himself Came Out To The Middle. He Hit Three Boundaries Including Two Lucky Ones Before Cleverness Of Croft Sent Him Back To The Pavilion. New Zealand Were Still Going At A Good. Fleming Also Joined The Party With A Couple Of Good Fours Before A Mix Up Between Him And Croft Resulted In His Demise. Cairns Came With Good Instincts But Soon He Was Caught At The Boundary.

The Settled Batsman Young Soon Dragged One On To His Stumps And Got Out For 53 Runs. The Run Rate Slowed Down For New Zealand. Harris Also Departed After Hitting 2 Boundaries And New Zealand Were Reduced To 178 For 6. Wickets Fell At Regular Intervals But The Tail Got New Zealand To 237 Runs Which Was A Fighting Total At That Time.

Knight And Atherton Came Out To The The Middle Hoping For A Series Victory. They Looked Confident And Got England Off To A Flyer. Luck Was Favouring Them As Well. Allot Was Making His International Debut But He Was Being Smashed As Well. Soon Allot Got The Big Wicket Of Knight And New Zealand Sensed A Comeback In This. Luck Continued Favouring New Zealand Like One Ball Going Through The Slips Cordon. Harris Got Three Quick Wickets With Three Scintillating Yorkers And Brought New Zealand Back Into The Hunt. Atherton, Stewart And Hussain Had No Answers For His Stunning Yorkers. Irani Soon Found His Way Back To The Pavilion Courtesy To The Bowling Of Larsen. Thorpe Scored A Steady Half Century With Two Fours And  A Six But Very Late Swing From Doull Showed Him The Way Back To The Pavilion.

White And Cork Then Played Carefully And Got England To The Last Over Needing 8 Runs. Allot Was Given The Responsibility To Defend 8 Runs. It Was Thrilling Last Over In Which England Lost Two Wickets But Neither Could New Zealand Win Nor Could England Get Home. England Scored 7 Runs From This Over And The Match Was A Tie. No Super overs Were Bowled At That Time So A Tie Was A Tie At That Time. It Was A Stunning Match With A lot OF Twists And Turns And Is Also Regaded As One Of The Best Matches In History!
